Do Animals Have Souls?
by Cold Steel ini know most jehovah's witnesses believe in the soul sleeping doctrine.
by this, given that neither man nor beast has a spirit, but that they do possess souls (or "intelligences" unique to themselves).
where this intelligence resides between death and resurrection is more than a passing interest, but again, assuming that yehweh can recreate one's distict soul, does the society believe that animals have souls?

As for viruses, Seraphim, the only consolation I have when I have a bad cold is that at least the viruses are having the time of their lives. Why should consciousness be requisite to be considered worthy of the atonement of Christ? God is said to have created all living things. Why should certain living things be exempted simply because we cannot understand what they may feel and know? I'm beginning to think that you have an unfair prejudice against life that doesn't have consciousness in our sense of the word. Naughty Seraphim. -

How do you know that for sure, Seraphim?
When I first brought Gustavo home, he didn't bloom for the first three years, even though I gave him the best treatment a plant could ask for --good lighting, plant food, regular watering. After the third year of no blooms, I ... I'm so ashamed to admit that I was that heartless ... but I threatened to toss him into the garbage if he didn't bloom the next year. Guess what? The very next year he bloomed!!! And every year since. We've been very good friends for 15 years.
Don't you think that kind of bravery in the face of adversity deserves the atonement of Christ?

Cold Steel: "My own belief is that the atonement of Christ covers animals, humans, bugs, plants and everything with life."
GREAT NEWS for the parasitic worms, tsetse flies, and the Ebola virus!!!
I'm so glad to hear that the atonement of Christ covers plants too. I have a houseplant I'm very fond of. I call him Gustavo. He blooms with beautiful pink flowers in the winter. I'm going to tell him the good news right now.
Obviously atheists need not pontificate on this ..."
But we will anyway, CS. "Believers-only" threads are not allowed on this site.

The TOPIC which may never be discussed!
by Terry inquestion: how does the leadership of jehovah's witnesses instruct its members to prepare for the eventual elder care of its members?.
answer: it pretends it will never happen!.
is this responsible leadership or some kind of cognitive dissonant malfeasance?.

It's a widely held opinion among dubs that the children, even if they're apostate, should take care of their parents when the parents get old and need help.
What's ironic about this is that if the adult children have left the dubs, the dubs call them apostate, vomit-slurping dogs, who merit shunning and special hatred from God. Yet the dubs will still ignore their faithful elderly, expecting the apostate dog-children to come to the rescue. I'm surprised the dubs think apostates will still have natural concern for their parents. I guess we're reprehensible only when it suits them. How very convenient for them.
This is the case of my own mother. She's almost housebound, yet receives very few visits or calls from her loving fellow dubs, let alone any kind of help. After my apostate sibs and I are done with the vomit, etc., we go over to cook, clean, do the yard work and whatever my mother needs to stay comfortable. Not too shabby for god-hating apostates, huh?

Cold Steel: " In the South, where we were all Methodists, quite often during "dinner" (dinner was at noon, and supper, a lighter meal, was at about 6 p.m., give or take a half hour), we would discuss what we'd heard in church and we commented and critiqued the pastor's sermon."
You were a Methodist before you became a Mormon, CS? Interesting.
" NONE DARE CALL IT TREASON was a bestselling book that convinced many of us that our way of life was under attack, and that there were those in government who wanted our youth to be bereft of religion, patriotism, virtue, integrity, education and intelligence—you know, like they are now. "
It's funny that you should lump the lack of religion with lack of patriotism, etc. My son was raised "bereft of religion." He's a highly intelligent and educated young man with a son of his own, who will in turn be raised as he was. There's no shortage on my son's part of patriotism, virtue, and integrity. I'm very proud of him.
When you make blanket statements like that, you should be aware that it's like spitting in the face of those who don't happen to fit your narrow interpretation of what attributes make up a good person.
It's an attack, as I'm sure you are well aware. So much for discussing religion "politely."

Signs of a Cult.. William Branham Cult
by tornapart inthis is very interesting, this guy was a cult member for 37 years.
replace 'william branham' for jw and you can see clearly what a cult really is.
he uses 10 points from steven hassan's book 'combatting cult mind control'.

Cold Steel: " Under his line of reasoning, first century Christianity would be a cult. Moses would be a cult leader, Jeremiah was a cult leader and Isaiah, too. So I suppose we can add Joseph Smith to the list. "
Now you're finally beginning to make some sense, CS. Keep up the good work.

Jesus: The latest Myth in the history of Sun-God Myths
by VivaVegas ini wanted to share with you all information that you may find helpful in your quest for real truth as it pertains to god and religion.
"jesus" is just the latest sun-god in mankind's long history of sun-gods.
a belief-system which in itself stems from mankinds first true religion, worship of the sun and stars.

James Thomas: " Notice, my icon is that of a fool."
Didn't need an icon. I read your post.
"My opening comment was a jest...I felt like jesting...And so I jested."
Do you know how to tell when a jest falls flat?
When nobody laughs.
Better work on those jesting skills.

Are you really an Apostate, according to the WT ?
by Phizzy inperusing the coverage of the 2013 dc spewings about apostates, the wt claims that apostates are "liars" and speak "twisted things".
this is their definition of apostates.. now, the reality is that sites such as paul's excellent jwfacts.com, books like coc and isocf, by ray franz, the works of olaf jonsson, penton and others, all write what is true !.
we are careful on here to present that which is true, at least i hope we are !.

BluesBrother: " Celebrating false religious holidays..."
Thanks for the list, BB. The first point is actually the only activity I've done that could be interpreted as apostacy by the WTS. And even then, I don't celebrate the religious aspects of Christmas and Easter. For me they're secular holidays that are fun for the whole family.
So, I guess I'm still a dub, though faded for 35 years, in good standing. What a plus.
